Digital Photography For Dummies

The "for dummies" books are very popular, and for very good reason.  They give you simple, easy to understand directions and knowledge and don't try to treat you like a dummy! 

This book is divided into six sections.

• Part 1 goes over the pros and cons of digital photography.  Even though the end result, a photo, is the same with digital photography as with film photography, the processes can be vastly different.
• Part 2 gives you an overview of how the camera works.  Understanding how a thing works is a big help in truly knowing your digital camera.
• Part 3 explains functions of the camera.  Here you will learn about shutter speed, fstops, lighting controls, etc.
• Part 4 will go over the various uses of camera accessories and the software that is available to manipulate your digital photos.
• Part 5 will give you some tips and tricks to improve your digital photos and will give you some resource references where you can go to learn more.
• Part 6 is the Appendixes, which is also where you will find the cd that comes with the book.  The cd has some sample photos for you to play with, as well as sample software so you can try the trial versions of various imaging software before you buy it.  This cd in itself is well worth the cost of the book!  The cd also includes some freebies for you.

Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies

Another series of the book, this time focusing on the camera instead of the photography.  If you have recently bought, or are thinking of buying, a Digital SLR, it might be a good idea to buy both of these books. 

They will make great companion pieces that will complement each other on your journey to learning how to use your DSLR and how to take great photos. 

There may be some material that is covered in both books, but that will only help to reinforce the knowledge in your head.

Photography For Dummies

One more book in the "dummies" series I would recommend to you is the Photography for Dummies book.  This book is a kind of combination of the two previous books, with some other stuff thrown in. 

It is not specific to digital photography, nor is is specific to digital SLR's, it is more of an all around how to photography book. 

It is more focused on the point and shoot variety of camera and on features such as how to frame your photo, etc. 

Again, as with the other two books, if you follow the links,Photography for Dummies, Second Edition you will be able to look at the index and read the first few pages to see if this is the book for you.
